Charity some people says begin at home, that is a story of a young lady who love to give and also see to people's problems, either young people or old.
Miss Ifedoyin Olatubosun a founder of IFECO an NGO based in Lagos, was interviewed recently at an event here in lagos where she narrates how she become a founder of an NGO and her love for charity.

YOU ARE WELCOME TO KGOLDGIST, CAN WE MEET YOU?

Princess Olatubosun Ifedoyin Marylove is my name. I'm  a fresh graduate and self employed ( I m into entertainment and event business) Single and a Christian.

WHAT IS THE NAME OF YOUR NGO?

Ifedoyin and friends charity organisation (IFECO).

HOW DID YOU COME ABOUT IFECO?

Ifedoyin is my name and since it can't be one person's job I involved friends back in school. That is how the name came to existence.

AND WHAT MOTIVATED TO START AN NGO?

My father's charity has no bound and he always tell us his children to be kind to people. Also my experience during trial, and some things I have experienced in life inspired me to start up an NGO.
I came from family that gives even when we don't have anything left.

THAT SOUND'S VERY GOOD AND I MUST SAY YOUR REASONS TO SET UP AN NGO IS QUITE ENCOURAGING, BUT DO YOU FACE ANY CHALLENGES WHEN U STARTED?

I faced a lot of challenges when I first started,  some of those challenges are personal while some are general. for instance,  People mostly here in Nigeria  don't support ngo's they believe they are using it for their personal use and for selfish interest, so due to this, it's difficult to see sponsors.

I could remember when I started I didn't have money for registration, I tried if I can get a means through sponsor but I didn't, I have to sort for  #180k for the registration myself.
And all our project so far has been from friends and families who share the same mission with me.

SO YOU DIDNT SEE SPONSORS JUST BECAUSE THEY BELIEVE YOU WILL USE IT FOR YOUR PERSONAL USE?

Yes, that's is what so many people said when we started and approach them.
Although,  we have not reach to some people because  the few people we reach out to are not encouraging us at all.
Then another challenge is that we have so many projects, and the needy ( DISABLES) are many too while our resource are little so we find it difficult to meet up with their needs

AND WHAT DID YOU THINK YOU NEED TO DO SO AS TO ACHIEVE YOUR AIM?

I need to be more hard working, and with the help of kind hearted people, I believe I can execute many huge projects that I have on ground now, and with that I can convince people that IFECO is ready to assist the less privilege.

DO YOU HAVE ANY PROJECT THAT IFECO HAS EXECUTED BEFORE?

Yes we have done some mini projects in and outside lagos and we planning one now against September 17. The Theme is  "say no to high blood pressure and diabetics". It's a charity walk and free test programme.
We just finish our website hoping it will help us to link with people who may be willing to assist us.

WHAT IS THE LINK TO THE WEBSITE?

Ifedoyinandfriendscharity.org. And we have also written to some telecommunication companies to see how we can partner with them but we haven't get positive response, we hope they can see reasons to partner with us one day so as to help the people who are in need in our society.

WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR GREATEST CHALLENGE SO FAR?

Money has been a big challenge to us. For instance,  Like the project we re working on presently, it was initially meant for this month but we have to postpone it to September  because we can't meet up with the capital to finance the project.

WHAT STEP HAVE YOU TAKEN TO PUBLICISE YOUR PROJECTS?

Nothing has been done yet. Most media houses that we discuss with are demanding for big money which the organisation can't affords now. So we are working on how to raise fund for publicity.

YOU MENTION GOING ON AIR, HOW WILL YOU ACHIEVE THAT WHEN YOU SAID THERE IS NO MONEY FOR THAT?

I m working on it. The one we talked to promise to get back to us after our negotiation but they have not. We will be meeting them as soon as we have enough cash to pay for the air time.

WHAT ARE YOUR ADVICE FOR ANY YOUNG NIGERIA WHO HAVE SAME VISION OF SETTING UP AN NGO?

My advice is that it's a good thing to help people mostly disabled, sick ones, widow and aged ones, but I will advice that, they should not relent if they had the call, it's not going to be easy but the God that call them won't leave them. Given is a call and the reward is divine. They should not do it for their selfish purpose, but for the interest of the needy that has no voice to call for help, no eyes to seek for their daily breads and no hands or legs  to work for their living.

YOU REQUEST FROM NIGERIAN BOTH HOME AND ABROAD?

Ifeco is pleading, appealing and begging for your help to give hope to people that thought their hope is lost, strengthen them to live, empower them to be useful for themselves and the nations. We are the eyes, hands and legs of the needy.  We need your help to sponsor our seminars and health talk in schools, Parks, ,markets etc so they won't die young because of ignorance.....we can't do it alone. Without your help we can't help the less privilege, please help us and we know that God Almighty will help you too.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR TIME.

You are welcome.
