United keeper saves THREE penalties in just 23 minutes
DUNDEE UNITED keeper Cammy Bell saved an amazing three penalties in the space of just 23 minutes in the 3-1 victory at Dunfermline.
The former Rangers and Kilmarnock stopper pulled off a stunning hat-trick in the first half at East End Park.
Bell first came to the rescue in the ninth minute after a handball inside the box by striker Simon Murray.
Gavin Reilly stepped up to take the spot-kick – only to be denied by the 29-year-old as he saved the shot in the bottom right hand corner.
Murray then put Dundee United 1-0 up before the Pars were awarded their second penalty after Bell brought down Reilly in 28 minutes.
This time Nicky Clark took the spot kick but again Bell was the hero, this time dropping down smartly to his left.
Incredibly the home side were awarded their third spot-kick of the day just four minutes later.
Paul McMullan was the latest to be denied when his penalty was also kept out by the heroic Bell.
After the break Tony Andreu scored United’s second with a decent right-footer before Michael Paton thanked Paul McMullan for the pass that allowed him to pull a goal back for Dunfermline.
But Andreu popped up again in stoppage time to make it 3-1 after United were reduced to 10 men when Paul Dixon collected a second yellow.
