TINUBU IS A PRICELESS ASSET -- BUHARI

President Buhari Muhammadu Buhari has dismissed rumours that he and the APC leadership are at odds with one of the Party chiefs, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, describing such rumours as unfounded and mischievous. The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, said the President was highly embarrassed by such "suggestions" and that President was in regular contact with Tinubu before, during and after the Ondo gubernatorial election. He said any suggestions that the President and the party machinery were working to destroy Tinubu had no foundation in truth or any credibility, explaining that the President was impressed by Tinubu's assurance not to work against the party in Ondo and he honoured his words. NLC urges FG to reinstate 23 SSANU members sacked by FUNAAB

Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has called on the Federal Government to intervene in the victimisation of workers reporting cases of corruption to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). NLC President, Mr Ayuba Wabba called for the immediate reinstatement of 23 members of Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) sacked by the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) The NLC president made this known in a letter to the Minister of Education, Mr Adamu Adamu and a copy was made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Monday. Sen. Aisha Alhassan The Federal Government in Abuja on Monday announced plans to launch a campaign to end child marriage and other related harmful traditional practices in the country. The Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Sen. Aisha Alhassan said this during a media briefing. Alhassan said the move was borne out of the resolution by African leaders to end child marriage during the 25th African Union Ordinary Session of Heads of State in June 2015. Crashes are caused by drivers’ negligence, not ember months — Oyeyemi

Mr Boboye Oyeyemi, the Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), said in Lagos on Monday that many crashes were caused as a result of disobedience to traffic rules and regulations by road users, not the ember months. Oyeyemi made the remark during the official flag-off of the Ember months campaign of the FRSC, Lagos State Command. Prof. Adebiyi Daramola, the embattled Vice Chancellor of the crisis-ridden Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA), in Ondo State, was this morning arrested after he hit a member of staff of the institution with his car. Abiodun Ademola Atunbi of the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) member of FUTA was allegedly crushed to the point of death, and was rushed to the hospital. SaharaReporters learned that the incident happened on the main campus at Oba’nla in Akure at about 8:30a.m. as some members of staff of the institution were gathering at a meeting point for prayers. Our correspondent gathered that the victim is the younger brother of a renowned journalist, Dele Atunbi of the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA). Kunle Falayi Chief Vincent Duru, one of the men convicted in the celebrated case of the ritual murder of an 11-year-old boy, Ikechukwu Okoronkwo, on September 19, 1996 in Owerri, Imo State, has reportedly been hanged. His sentence said to have been carried out on Sunday, November 13, 2016, is coming 13 years after his 2003 conviction. To refresh memories on the case, which became popularly known as the ‘Otokoto murder’ at the time, here are 20 things to know: Ekeanyanwu The victim, Okoronkwo, a groundnut seller, was lured into a highbrow hotel called Otokoko in Owerri and beheaded. Okoronko was reportedly given a bottle of Coca-Cola that had been spiked with drug before he was killed. The hotel was owned by Chief Vincent Duru, who became known as Chief Otokoto during the lengthy trial that followed his arrest. Organised by the Security Watch Africa (SWA), the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of Lagos State Police Command also emerged as the best anti-crime police squad in West Africa at the award ceremony held in Johannesburg, South Africa.
