14 BRT buses destroyed in revolt over hawker’s death

The scene of the accident…yesterday For several hours, a major artery of Lagos State, the entire stretch of Ikorodu Road was on completely blocked yesterday, as street hawkers went berserk destroying vehicles and smashing BRT buses in protest against the killing of one of them. A moving truck belonging to a bottling company and moving on top speed crushed the unidentified hawker to death. He was said to be running away from officials of the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI), who were arresting street traders on the highway. Robbers shoot final-year NDU student to death

The late Wilson Daredevil armed robbers have shot and killed a final year engineering student of the Bayelsa State-owned Niger Delta University (NDU) in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital. The victim, identified as Obele Wilson, was attacked along the Sani Abacha Expressway, Yenagoa, where some branches of new generation banks are located. The bandits, who were armed with guns and other weapons reportedly rounded up Wilson and some bank customers around 2p.m. and started dispossessing them of their cash, mobile handsets and other valuables. Former Foreign Minister, Chief Ojo Maduekwe  is dead. He was born May 6, 1945 in Abia State, Nigeria and was appointed Foreign Minister of Nigeria on July 26, 2007 by President Umaru Yar’Adua Maduekwe.. Maduekwe was also appointed Culture and Tourism minister by President Olusegun Obasanjo in 1999, Minister of Transport in 2001. As Minister of Transport he got the nick name ‘Ojo oni Keke’ for advocating for the use of bicycles, although critics said that the roads were unsafe for cyclists and Maduekwe himself was pushed into a ditch by a bus while he was cycling to work. Gas supply to electricity plants drops to 541mmscfd

A gas processing plant Gas supply to electricity plants in Nigeria has dropped from the 686mmscfd it recorded in April to 541mmscfd in May, according to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC). The corporation said in its analysis on domestic gas supply to power sector that the country’s average power generation also declined from 2,969mw to 2,466mw in the month of May. Giving a breakdown on gas supply to power plants, it disclosed that there has been consistent drop in the quantity of gas to power plants since January this year from 734mmscfd to 541mmscfd in April. Naira Falls Per dollar At Black Market

The naira fell to 351 to the United States dollar at the parallel market and slightly to 282 at the new interbank market on Monday. Following the floating of the naira and the adoption of a single structure through the interbank/autonomous window, the currency closed last week at 281 to the greenback at the official market. The President, Association of Bureau De Change Operators of Nigeria, Alhaji Aminu Gwadabe, in an interview with our correspondent, said the naira dropped to 351 at the parallel market from between 346 and 348 due to persistent liquidity issue. He said, “Lack of liquidity in both the interbank and parallel markets is what is affecting the naira exchange rate to the dollar. “Right now, the only thing that the market is scavenging for is the export proceeds.
